This season’s Champions League provided some of the most entertaining football in recent years. For me, the biggest experience was seeing Ajax get to within a few seconds of a Champions League final for the first time since 1996, playing “true” Ajax football. So the timing of the most recent book by Michael Cox could not have been better. He looks at all the tactical, individual and national components that have made modern European football what it is today. And his point of departure is indeed Holland in general and Ajax in particular. Review time.
